SRP Offering Rebates for Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation

SRP is now offering a rebate for Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) installed in the ductwork of Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) systems. The rebate available for the UVGI system is $30 per ton of HVAC.

What is UVGI?

UVGI uses short-wavelength UV light to kill or inactivate microorganisms and can be used as a disinfection method by breaking down the DNA of harmful viruses, bacteria and mold spores. UVGI can be applied within HVAC systems to help disinfect air with proper placement of UV lamps within a building’s ductwork.

UVGI systems can irradiate the small airborne particles containing microorganisms as the air flows through the ducts, although a variety of factors determine the extent to which UVGI systems effectively kill or deactivate cells in flowing air including; the microorganism type, air velocity, humidity, the size of the particles carrying the microorganisms and the UV system design.
